Be sure to check out the July issue of House & Home magazine! I’m so excited and thrilled to be on the pages of the Summer Living issue. The article is called, “A Shore Thing”, starting on page 80. I will post more on the house and the renovation in the coming weeks.
BEACH PHOTOGRAPHY
Maybe it’s because I’m dreaming of summer, but I find myself staring at the beach in this amazing Jon Rou photograph. There was a definite trend in beach photography in decor over the last couple years, now it seems the trend is towards any large scale, crisp, framed, colour photography. I personally love the look of over scale photography and you can also really influence the overall look of the piece depending on the colour and style of frame you choose. Here is a shot of the Jon Rou beach shot at my house.
RENOVATION UPDATE
Over the last few years it seems like I’m always renovating something. However, I purchased my all time favourite house in the fall of 2012, it’s an old house, built in 1844, very charming and lovely. I still can’t believe it’s mine! Pinch me! I begin by thinking I’d like to open up the main floor (there were a lot of small rooms) and add a new kitchen; lets just say it got alot more involved than that. I will be posting a lot about this reno, because it kind of took on a life of its own and became much larger than I anticipated. I’ve done many renovations in the past, but this one took the cake for the biggest I’ve ever taken on. I’m extremely happy with the results and also thrilled that the house will be featured in the July 2014 issue of House & Home magazine. Can’t wait to see it!
CHANGES AT NELSON & CO.
For those of you wondering what’s going on at my location on Almon Street, I’ve decided to turn Nelson & Co. into a design office & showroom – so we’re now officially the home of Deb Nelson Design. It’s still open to the public when I’m there, or you can make an appointment to come in any time. We sell several lines of home decor: Montauk sofa (floor models and lots of fabric choices), Capel rugs, Circa Lighting, lots of fabric books by Kravet, Robert Allen, Maxwell, Beacon Hill & more. There is more detail on the items we sell in the website under ‘About Us’. I can’t believe I opened Nelson & Co. in April 2011, the last 3 years have flown by! And in that time my business has changed and evolved, and I’ve become very busy doing design work, which doesn’t allow the time to properly dedicate to a retail store. As a solution, I’ve decided to outsource my retail division. There will be more news coming soon about where you can still shop for Nelson & Co. items, so stay tuned for that.
The amazing illustration is done by Emma Fitzgerald, a lovely local artist!
