I've done over 20 renovations on my own properties over the years and almost all of them have involved a white kitchen (or at least a partly white kitchen). Some of these are houses I've lived in and some are rental properties. And I've done countless white kitchens with many Deb Nelson Design clients.
My own personal love of a white kitchen comes from the clean, fresh look that white cabinetry provides. I love that you can add so much other visual interest with the counter choice, tile, hardware, appliances, wall colour, window treatments, faucet, accessories and decor. I find the white cabinets to be a perfect neutral jumping off point for anything else you want to add. There are many choices to make and I actually love the design of kitchen layout taking all the components of function into account. I mean who doesn't love when the trash and recycling is hidden away in the perfectly placed pull out cabinet or the microwave is strategically hidden in a handy pull out drawer.
Now that I think about it, two of my other fave parts of kitchen design are good future blog posts. But one is that I love that the budget on kitchens can vary greatly. I've done many of my own on super-duper low budget kitchens and been thrilled with the results. You can get creative, be functional and stylish - and in a future post I'll share some of my top budget tips and where I like to splurge and where I'll try and save.
I also personally love a kitchen that is decorated more like a 'room'. I'm not a huge fan of upper cabinets and so I personally often avoid them and go with open shelves or other ways to store what's required. But I love to add lamps, artwork and rugs to kitchens to make it feel decorated. That's something else I'll blog about down the road.
In the meantime, a few of my white kitchens over the years!
